Born in 1902 and one of the great early Mississippi bluesmen, Skip James was born at the Woodbine Plantation located about 2 miles west of this Mississippi Blues Trail marker. Heading north on Highway 49 the marker is in a paddock just near the turn-off to Bentonia on the Corner of Highway 49 and Wilson Street (Mississippi Highway 433).
